Red band trailer for Kick-Ass looks to please (our more distasteful selves)

March 1, 2010

The Mark Millar comic book-adapted film Kick-Ass is set to be released on April 16th, and so far it looks promising. Very promising. No, I haven’t seen director Matthew Vaughn’s two other films, Stardust (2007) and Layercake (2004), but I do have faith in him, based on what I’ve read and heard of those previous works and this upcoming superhero-spoof movie.

Judging from what I’ve seen in the red band trailer, it seems Vaughn has taken a few notes from Quentin Tarantino. I was immediately reminded of The Bride from the Kill Bill series upon seeing Chloë Moretz’s character, Hit-Girl. This exploitation-style film will certainly draw controversy among more than a few people, but I know they will be nothing more than a scratch on the surface of a building made up of violence-loving, thrill-seeking American filmgoers.
